The Process

From raw clay to your table

Every piece passes through dozens of hands-on steps over several weeks. Here's what happens between a lump of clay and the mug in your hands.

01

Wedging & Centring

It all starts with a block of stoneware clay, wedged by hand to remove air bubbles. The clay is then centred on the wheel — the foundation of every piece.

02

Throwing

With the clay centred, the form is opened and pulled upward on the spinning wheel. Each piece is shaped entirely by feel — the pressure of fingers and palms, the speed of the wheel.

03

Trimming & Handles

Once leather-hard, each piece returns to the wheel to have its foot ring trimmed, walls refined, and weight perfected. Handles are pulled by hand from solid clay.

Bisque Firing

After drying completely, pieces are loaded into the kiln for the first firing at around 1,000°C, transforming fragile dry clay into porous bisqueware.

Glazing

Each piece is dipped, poured, or brushed with glazes mixed in the studio from raw materials. The interaction between glaze and clay creates unique, unrepeatable effects.

Glaze Firing

The final firing reaches over 1,250°C, transforming clay and glaze into a vitrified, food-safe, durable piece. Opening the kiln is still the most exciting moment.
